Janice Zappa | Board President Board Member since 02/04 Bank Vice President. Janice is employed by Santa Cruz
County Bank as a Vice President and the Corporate Secretary. She has
been employed in the banking industry for 20 years. Janice is a 30 year
resident of San Lorenzo Valley and a graduate of Cabrillo College.
Working for community banks has presented many opportunities to
volunteer and fund raise for local non-profit associations, which she
enjoys. She became involved with New Horizons School through a
colleague and is thankful for the opportunity to make a
contribution. | Peter Gaeckle | Board Vice-President Board Member since 1/04 Business Owner. Peter
is a partner in Lifestyles Real Estate and Harbor Financial since
inception of the companies in November of 2005. Peter had been in the
banking and finance industry since 1994 primarily working in commercial
lending. He has lived in Santa Cruz County since 1996 with his wife and
their four children. Peter has a BA in Business Economics from
University of Santa Barbara in 1993. In addition to volunteering his
time on the board, Peter also enjoys spending time coaching his
children's youth league teams. Peter became involved with New Horizons
in 2002 initially as a volunteer serving breakfast and putting on the
school's Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday parties. | Martha Andersen | Treasurer Information
coming. | Ruth Landmann M.A. | Executive Director Board Member since 1/07 Retired Educator. Ruth
Landmann is currently serving as the Executive Director of New Horizons
School. She has been an educator for more than 40 years and has a
Masters of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision. She
graduated from Cabrillo College in 1962, and from San Francisco State
University in 1965. She earned her Masters degree in Educational
Administration and Supervision.Besides teaching at Rio del Mar
Elementary School for many years, she has also taught in Chicago,
Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana, Western Samoa; Guatemala City,
Guatemala, and Copenhagen, Denmark. Ruth was selected to serve as a
Mentor Teacher in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, and has
served as a judge for the Santa Cruz County Science Fair since
1991. | Kevin Dueck | Board Member since 10/07 General Manager. Kevin is a longtime Santa Cruz resident
and owner of HomeSpace and WorkSpace. He has a BS Degree from Cal Poly,
San Luis Obispo. Kevin is committed to serving the community and is
involved with Children's Ministries at Twin Lakes Church, Family Fun
Fest, Member of Capitola/Soquel Chamber, Member of Santa Cruz Chamber
and Member of Aptos Chamber. | Russ Elliot | Board Member since 1/06 Human Resources Manager. Russ is currently the
Human Resources Manager at O'Neill. Russ has a Masters degree in Human
Resources and over 20 years experience in the field. He has held local
Human Resources positions with Texas Instruments and Coast Commercial
Bank. Russ has lived in Santa Cruz County for 13 years. Russ is also an
Executive Committee member of Santa Cruz County's Workforce Investment
Board. Working with New Horizons School, its students and teachers, has
been a very rewarding experience. | Randy Kramer | Board Member since 7/05 Professional Athlete. Randy had a career
lasting for 20 years, fifteen as a player and five as a coach. Randy
pitched in the National League with Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and
American League with Seattle Mariners. He was a member of the 1990
National League Champions Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2002 he was a member of
the Anaheim Angels World Championship Club. Randy pitched with nine
different organizations and played overseas in two foreign countries.
Randy worked with Make A Wish Foundation, and Boys and Girls Club of the
Bay Area. Through the years has been involved with numerous charity
events. He joined New Horizons school through Peter Gaeckle's influence
and a visit to the school. He looks forward to giving time and
support. | Paul Locatelli | Board Member since 7/05 Realtor/Business Owner. Paul was born and raised in Santa
Cruz, although he has lived in other parts of the world including Italy,
Paris, Australia and Germany to mention a few, his heart always belonged
to Santa Cruz. Paul is a founding member of Lifestyles Ventures/Real
Estate. He believes strongly in community outreach and has an
incredible desire to help children to reach their maximum potential in
life. | Jan Tarzia | Board Member since 1/05 Communications Professional. Jan is a Communications
Professional who has lived in Santa Cruz County since 1981. She is
employed as the Director of Corporate Communications for Endeavors
Technologies, a software company based in Irvine, CA. Jan spent five
years volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and assisting with school
events during her daughter's childhood. She became involved with New
Horizons through a previous position in community relations at Seagate.
She was very impressed by the program at New Horizons and is excited for
the opportunity to continue working with the organization and helping
local children.
